The story’s protagonist, Lola, was abandoned by her parents at a young age and spent her childhood in an orphanage by the sea. Because of the kindness she received from her teachers and classmates, she developed a deep affection for the place as she grew up. Thirty years later, she and her husband, Carlos, a doctor, return to the orphanage and adopt seven-year-old Simon, hoping to rebuild the long-abandoned institution.
